N. Ireland, June 2006 — Studio and mobile recording company Komodo Recordings have recently added Audient’s ASP008 mic preamp to their growing list of outboard equipment. Centred around a Mac running ProTools HD, Komodo Recordings is a professionally run facility offering a wide range of services, including mixing, mastering, CD graphics & posters, CD duplication & production, sound reinforcement and even expert drum tuition.
Alwyn Walker, Producer at Komodo explains their choice of gear. “I studied at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, and whilst I was there two of the studios had their consoles upgraded to Audient’s ASP8024. I loved them! When I heard that the mic preamp design was taken from the desk, there was no contest.” He continues about the features of the ASP008, “I particularly like the simplicity of design. The variable input impedance setting is great, and we have also used the instrument inputs which don’t colour the sound at all. The clarity of sound of this unit is stunning, and everyone agrees it looks the part too.”
The Audient mic preamp has been used on a wide variety of projects already, including melodic metal band Rigger, indie band Ignition and on location for Fermanagh Concert Band and for Ballyclare Male Voice Choir. “For location work the digital ADAT output was used, at 24 bit, 48k, clocked from the unit,” explains Alwyn. “The converters are particularly impressive given the price of the option.”
Incorporating a relaxation room, kitchen and garden, and situated in the countryside around Hillsborough, Komodo Recordings was started in 1999 with the aim of promoting local talent alongside providing a professional facility in Northern Ireland for touring signed bands.
Komodo are currently building a new studio near Hillsborough, designed specifically with rock bands in mind.
The Audient ASP008 was purchased from Studiocare in Liverpool.
